Status: Conceptual Design
Project Area: 6, 000 sq. ft.
Project Type: Single Residential
Located in the prominent area of Westerhall Point., overlooking the Atlantic Ocean is this renovation project with huge potential. During our initial assessment of the property, we felt that the existing building design creates a divide between the inside and outside spaces through small windows and the lack of exterior spaces. The new design aims to take full advantage of the local tropical climate through the creation of large openings and ample outdoor spaces. These re-animate the thresholds between inside and outside, blurring the lines and bringing the essence of the wild Atlantic coast into the interior spaces.
The ground floor staircase is to be constructed with anthracite painted steel beams and timber treads with black metal and glass railings. The ground floor kitchen will feature warm timber cupboards with either brass or black hardware, polished concrete countertops and marble - look backsplash in addition to a matte black vent hood. The living room spaces will feature polished concrete floors and lime washed walls. The verandah and patio spaces should read as an extension to the living spaces, using the same polished concrete flooring and timber ceiling for added warmth. Natural, nude, black and brass furniture pieces and electrical fixtures are to be used to complete the design. The bedrooms will feature warm timber floors and lime washed walls.
Closets are to be constructed of timber and rattan cane for a rustic ye t sophisticated aesthetic. The rattan weaving will allow the closets to breathe in the humid climate. Timber, rattan, nude, black and brass furniture pieces and electrical fixtures are to be used to complete the design. The master bathroom is to be the star of the show while still maintaining a grounded, balanced aesthetic by the use of stone -look porcelain tiles on the floor and walls. A large concrete bathtub and cylindrical concrete sinks are proposed for a rustic modern appeal.
